The Story Behind Tidal Resilience

A Founder Who Turned Personal Loss Into Purpose

Karen Danlovich is the Founder and Executive Director of Tidal Resilience Foundation, a Northeast Florida nonprofit supporting children and families navigating the loss of a parent or caregiver.

Karen knows firsthand how childhood grief shapes a life. After losing her mother at age nine and her father at nineteen, Karen experienced firsthand how grief shapes childhood and young adulthood. Those experiences, combined with more than fifteen years in education as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal, inspired her to create Tidal Resilience.

Today, Karen leads a growing movement centered on compassion, resilience, and community. Through Resilience Kits, Resilience Rides, The Reef, workshops, and partnerships across Northeast Florida, she is helping children discover that while grief changes us, it does not define what comes next.

What Guides Karen’s Work

  • Joy and grief can exist together. Children do not need to stop grieving before they can experience connection, laughter, or moments of happiness.

  • Resilience means learning to move with grief. It is not about leaving loss behind or pretending it no longer hurts.

  • Nature creates space for healing. The outdoors can help children slow down, feel grounded, and express what words cannot.

  • Healing happens in relationships. Children are more likely to feel supported when caring people stay present through grief.

  • Every caring adult can strengthen a child’s circle of support. Small acts of understanding, consistency, and compassion can make a meaningful difference.
